Abstract
• In November 2019, all CPI cities in North Sumatra had
deflation, namely Sibolga by 0.48 percent; Pematangsiantar by 0.10 percent;
Medan by 0.77 percent; and Padangsidimpuan by 0.05 percent. Thus, the combined
4 CPI cities in North Sumatra in November 2019 deflation was 0.66 percent.
• In November 2019, the deflationary field was 0.77 percent or
the index decreased from 143.39 in October 2019 to 142.29 in November 2019.
Deflation occurred due to falling prices as indicated by the decline in the
index of three expenditure groups, namely the group food ingredients by 2.90
percent; clothing group by 0,36 percent; and transportation, communication and
financial services by 0.26 percent. The groups that showed an increase in
index, namely the housing, water, electricity, gas and fuel group by 0.14
percent and the health group by 0.03 percent. Meanwhile, the processed food,
beverages, cigarettes and tobacco group and the education, recreation and
sports group did not experience a change in index.
• The main contributors to deflation during November 2019 in
Medan include red chili, dencis fish, air transportation, green chilli,
purebred chicken eggs, purebred chicken, and mustard greens.
• Out of 23 CPI cities on Sumatra Island, 18 cities recorded
deflation. The highest deflation in Tanjung Pandan was 1.06 percent with CPI of
146.21 and the lowest in Batam was 0.01 percent with CPI of 137.96.
