Abstract
• In June 2020, three CPI
cities in Sumatera Utara deflation, namely Pematangsiantar by 0.13 percent;
Medan by 0.09 percent; Padimpiduan by 0.02 percent. The other two cities are
inflation, namely Sibolga by 0.13 percent; and Gunung Sitoli by 0.22 percent.
Thus, the combined 5 CPI cities in Sumatera Utara in June 2020 were deflation
of 0.07 percent.
• In June 2020, Medan recorded 0.09 percent deflation or a
decline in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) from 103.03 in May 2020 to 102.94 in
June 2020. Deflation occurred due to a decline in prices indicated, namely the
food, beverage group , and tobacco by 0.14 percent; transportation group by
0.19 percent; and the personal care and other services group of 0.37 percent.
While the household appliances, equipment and routine maintenance group
experienced 0.05 percent inflation, while the other groups did not experience
changes in the index.
• The main contributors to deflation during June 2020 in
Medan include dencis fish, shallots, garlic, air transportation, red chili,
cooking oil and granulated sugar.
• Out of 24 CPI cities on Sumatra Island, 16 cities recorded
inflation. The highest inflation in Tembilahan was 1.13 percent with CPI of
105.86 and the lowest in Bandar Lampung was 0.03 percent with CPI of 104.81.
