Abstract

  • Farmers Terms of Trade (NTP) is a comparison of the price index received by farmers (It) to the price index paid by farmers (Ib).
  • NTP is one indicator to see the level of ability/purchasing power of farmers in rural areas. NTP also shows the exchangeability (terms of trade) of agricultural products with goods and services consumed as well as for production costs.
  • In April 2023, Sumatera Utara Province's NTP (2018=100) was recorded at 126.42, down 0.77 percent compared to March 2023's NTP, which was 127.40.
  • The decline in April 2023 NTP was caused by a decrease in three sub-sectors' NTP, namely the Horticulture sub-sector by 3.48 percent, the People's Plantation Plants sub-sector NTP by 0.81 percent, and the Livestock sub-sector NTP by 1.65 percent. Meanwhile, the NTP of two other sub-sectors experienced an increase, namely the NTP of the Food Crops sub-sector by 0.31 percent and the NTP of the Fisheries sub-sector by 0.47 percent.
  • Changes in the Household Consumption Index (IKRT) reflect rural inflation/deflation rates. In April 2023, there was rural deflation in North Sumatra of 0.19 percent.
  • The Agricultural Household Business Exchange Rate (NTUP) for North Sumatra Province in April 2023 was 123.58 or decreased by 1.00 percent compared to the previous month's NTUP
