In November 2023, the combined year
on year (yoy) inflation for five cities in Sumatera Utara (Sibolga,
Pematangsiantar, Medan, Padangsidimpuan and Gunungsitoli) was 3.20 percent with
a Consumer Price Index (CPI) of 114.65. Of the five CPI cities in Sumatera
Utara, the highest yoy inflation occurred in Sibolga at 4.19 percent with a CPI
of 118.22 and the lowest occurred in Medan at 3.14 percent with a CPI of
114.15.

Yoy inflation occurred due to an
increase in prices as indicated by the increase in all price indexes for
expenditure groups, namely the food, beverage and tobacco groups by 6.80
percent; clothing and footwear group at 0.82 percent; housing, water,
electricity and household fuel group at 1.00 percent; equipment, tools and
routine household maintenance group at 0.51 percent; health group at 3.91
percent; transportation group by 1.14 percent; information, communication and
financial services group at 0.21 percent; recreation, sports and culture group
at 2.45 percent; education group at 2.82 percent; food and beverage/restaurant
provision group at 2.03 percent; and the personal care and other services group
at 2.99 percent.

The main commodities contributing to
inflation yoy in November 2023 include rice, red chilies, filter clove
cigarettes, cayenne peppers, academies/universities, gold jewelry and tomatoes.
· The month to month (mtm) inflation
rate for November 2023 is 0.45 percent and the year to date (ytd) inflation
rate for November 2023 is 1.67 percent.
