Abstract
• North Sumatra poverty rate has decreased by 0.20 points, from 8.83 percent in March 2019 to 8.63 percent in September 2019. This poverty rate is equivalent to 1.26 million people in September 2019, or reduced by around 22 thousand people in the past semester.
• The percentage of poor people in September 2019 in urban areas was 8.39 percent, and in rural areas it was 8.93 percent, each decreased by 0.17 points and 0.21 points compared to March 2019.
• The poverty line in September 2019 was recorded at Rp. 490,120 / capita / month with the composition of the Food Poverty Line of Rp. 367,105, - (74.90 percent) and the Non-Food Poverty Line of Rp. 123,015, - (25.10 percent).
• In the period March 2019 - September 2019, the Poverty Depth Index (P1) and the Poverty Severity Index (P2) showed an increase. P1 rose from 1,371 in March 2019 to 1,480 in September 2019, and P2 increased from 0.310 to 0.372. This indicates that the average expenditure of the poor tends to decrease and the distance away from the poverty line and the level of expenditure inequality among the poor is getting higher.
